About Our Founder
Steven B. DeCillis
J.D. University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC, 1994 B.S. Business Management and Political Science, Rutgers University, Newark, NJ, 1990
As a proud Tarheel and active member of the business community in Charlotte, Steve DeCillis is relentless on behalf of his clients and fearless in the face of opposition. He seeks not only to provide excellent legal counsel but also cultivates essential ties within the community he calls home through outreach and in multiple business networking groups.
With a legal career in North Carolina that spans three decades and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from one of the oldest and finest law schools in the country, Steve DeCillis initially made his mark in North Carolina as an Assistant District Attorney.
During his tenure, he was the lead prosecutor in a four-county district focusing on first-degree murder cases and high-profile felonies. His energy and dedication were driven by such commitment and passion that he performed more jury trials than all the other Assistant District Attorneys combined. This is where he honed his trial skills and conducted thousands of bench trials in district court and nearly 75 jury trials.
After going into private practice, Steve rapidly established a widespread reputation in hundreds of family law and criminal defense cases, many of which were highly contested bench and jury trials lasting a few days to several months. As the lead attorney in hundreds of cases for both the Plaintiff and Defendant, Dads and Moms, Steve’s performances in high-stakes situations won him the nickname “The Beast” for his tenacity and exceptional ability to achieve favorable verdicts for his clients.
Steve put down roots in the Queen City after accepting a business opportunity and quickly became an active member of the community both civically and in business. In a metroplex that is experiencing explosive growth, Steve sees clearly the opportunities and potential legal pitfalls that businesses are liable to and has made it his ambition to navigate his clients with insight, wisdom, and understanding.
Steve is a member and leader of F3 Waxhaw, F3SOB Land, and Area 51 where he is affectionately known as Paper Jam, a tireless networker, and a formal life mentor to multiple men. He lives in the Charlotte area with his wife of 19 years, Whitney, their son Matthew, his Father Tom, and their dog Duncan.
Courtney Clinton is a Paralegal at DeCillis Law Firm. Courtney has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Florida and acquired a hands-on, gentle approach from Children Legal Services with the Department of Children and Families in sunny Northeast Florida.
When she is not helping other families, you can find her doing CrossFit or spending time making memories with her husband and two children as they jet off on a new adventure.
“Working for DeCillis Law Firm is different from others because we don't see our clients as just another case number. We take the time to get to know them and what makes them tick in order to advocate for the best possible outcome for them and their family.” -Courtney
